Football (soccer) became the most widely practiced and popular team sport in Somalia during the mid-20th century, fostering local clubs, inter-regional leagues, and national athletic development leading up to independence. Designed by Italian graphic artist Corrado Mancioli as part of the 1958 sports definitive issue, this stamp celebrates competitive team sports and goalkeeping agility.
