Sports & Athletics - Fencing
Fencing was introduced through modern athletic academies and physical training institutions in Mogadishu during the 1950s trusteeship period (AFIS). Designed by Corrado Mancioli as part of the 1958 sports definitive issue, this value celebrates discipline, agility, and the classical Olympic combat arts.
Rendered in blue monochrome tones, the composition portrays a standing fencer in full protective whites, resting an épée/foil on the ground with a mesh fencing mask tucked under his arm. In the background, the architectural pylons of the Mogadishu sports complex—inscribed with STADIO and the emblem of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI)—frame the athlete, representing institutional backing for modern sports facilities in Somalia.
