The Plains Zebra (Equus quagga, formerly Equus burchellii) is an iconic herbivorous mammal of the African savanna, traditionally roaming the open grasslands, bushlands, and riverine woodlands of southern Somalia and East Africa. Famous for its bold black-and-white striped coat—which provides herd camouflage against predators, deters biting flies, and assists in thermoregulation—the zebra plays a vital role in savanna ecology as a pioneer grazer that prepares grasslands for selective ruminants like gazelles and antelopes.

Featured on the 0.15 So. denomination of the Pro Infanzia series, the design by Corrado Mancioli portrays a zebra walking across the grassland against a striking color-blocked background of crimson red and lush green. The stamp connected wildlife conservation and natural heritage with charitable support for the nation's youth welfare programs.
