4th Somalia Trade Fair & Film Festival / Falcheiro Dam

The 4th Somalia Trade Fair (4ª Fiera della Somalia) and its associated Film Festival (Festival Cinematografico), held in Mogadishu in 1957, served as a prominent international platform showcasing the economic modernization, cultural developments, and infrastructural progress achieved during the trusteeship era. A focal point of the exposition was the promotion of major hydraulic engineering projects designed to manage seasonal river surges, mitigate drought impacts, and expand irrigated commercial agriculture in the fertile southern river valleys. The stamp prominently depicts the Falcheiro Dam (Diga di Falcheiro), a vital diversion barrage and sluice-gate installation constructed along the lower reaches of the Shabelle River. The engineering complex allowed for controlled water distribution across extensive canal networks servicing nearby banana, sugarcane, and cotton plantations. By highlighting this modern hydraulic landmark alongside the international trade and film gathering, the issue underscored the territory's expanding agrarian infrastructure and economic readiness on the eve of national independence.
