The Papal Striking of the Holy Door - 1.5 rupia
This issue highlights the foundational symbolic gesture of the Holy Year celebration, showing the Pope actively striking the sealed Holy Door with a ceremonial silver hammer. This illustration visualizes the biblical passage "Knock, and it shall be opened unto you," delivering a powerful message of spiritual reclamation, welcoming pilgrims, and declaring the commencement of a global period of prayer and indulgence. Surrounded by kneeling clergy in ornate vestments, the image reinforces the centralized spiritual authority of the Holy See and the deep historical memory of Catholic liturgy. Surcharged "Besa 75" and overprinted "SOMALIA ITALIANA", the stamp served an educational and political purpose overseas, utilizing daily postal communications to reflect the close ideological partnership between the Italian colonial state and church institutions in projecting western cultural traditions onto East Africa.
