The Capitoline Hill in Rome - 1.55 lire

This semi-postal issue continues the architectural series benefiting the social welfare fund of the Voluntary Militia for National Security (Pro Opera Previdenza M.V.S.N.), focusing on the Palazzo Senatorio located on Rome's historic Capitoline Hill (Campidoglio). The detailed engraving carries a powerful message of civic governance, municipal law, and ancient political heritage, highlighting a site that has served as the symbolic seat of Rome's civil administration for millennia. The composition is bounded by two decorative columns displaying the symbolic fasces, anchoring the historical monument within the centralized authority of the early 20th-century Italian state. Surcharged and overprinted with "SOMALIA ITALIANA", this high-value 1.25-lire plus 60-centesimi stamp demonstrates how regular colonial postal operations were utilized to support paramilitary social programs in the mother country while broadcasting iconic monuments of Italian civil heritage to the Horn of Africa.
