This deep violet 1.25-lire stamp stems from the same 1929 commemorative series celebrating the abbey's 14th centenary ("XIV Centenario Montecassino"). Re-used for the colonial postal system in the Horn of Africa, the stamp bears a red, two-line "SOMALIA ITALIANA" overprint, combined with a lower value conversion surcharge that converts the rate down to 25 centesimi. The detailed central vignette reproduces the majestic architectural perspective of the abbey’s Bramante cloister and its prominent stone cistern well, using an iconic monument of European preservation to fulfill regional communication and administrative tasks within the territory.
