Adoption of the National Coat of Arms - 0.25 somalo
The National Coat of Arms of Somalia was officially adopted on October 10, 1956, by the newly established Legislative Assembly during the United Nations trusteeship period (AFIS). Designed to embody national sovereignty, unity, and territorial pride, the heraldic achievement features a central blue shield bearing the five-pointed white star of unity (Xiddigta Midnimada), surmounted by an embattled golden mural crown. The shield is supported on either side by two rearing leopards rampant, representing courage, vigilance, and the rich native fauna of the Somali lands. Beneath the shield, two crossed traditional Somali spears (warmo) and two intertwined palm fronds are draped with a white ribbon, symbolizing defense of the homeland, peaceful coexistence, and agrarian vitality. Issued in 1956 to celebrate the institutional establishment of the national emblem, this stamp marked a major constitutional step toward full self-determination, providing an enduring symbol of statehood that continued as the official coat of arms of the independent Somali Republic established in 1960.
